Recent COVID-19 Updates

  • California Governor, Gavin Newsom, ordered new closures as the coronavirus cases increased. He has ordered to close indoor operations for the following : fitness centers, places of worship, offices for non-critical sectors, personal care services, hair salons, malls, as of 06/13/2020. Restaurants and Bars were ordered to close indoor dining earlier last week. Some bars were even told to shut down their outdoor service.

  • School leaders have sent out official emails about LAUSD and SDUSD districts in Los Angeles and San Diego starting off the year in an online format

  • In at least 12 states, the weekly average of coronavirus cases has increased more than 40%. California is behind Florida and Texas for the most new infections reported each day.

  • American drugmaker Pfizer and its partner BioNTech announced that there is a possibility that a successful vaccine could be put into production by the end of 2020 or early in 2021.

  • The US has confirmed more than 3.505 million cases and 138,095 related deaths

  • California reports 336,037 cases and 4409 deaths

  • In San Diego, there are 20,348 confirmed cases and 424 deaths

  • Los Angeles has a total of over 136,000 cases and has become a hot spot for new COVID-19 cases

  • The San Diego Catholic Bishop, Robert W. McElroy issued the return to lockdown for churches
