Latinos are now the largest ethnic group admitted into a UC school
Many universities struggle to increase diversity on their campus, unlike the University of California. They had the highest percentage of freshman Latino students this year!
The universities have also admitted more first-generation, low-income and California Community College transfer students this year.
Latino students admitted at a University of California school make up 36% of the freshman class. The total number of California freshmen admits is 79,953 meaning that Latinos make up 28,600 of those admits. Asian Americans make up the second-largest group of admitted students at 35%, followed by white students at 21% and black students at 5%.
It's very important to recognize such a huge accomplishment in the Latino community. Latinos are always overlooked and stereotyped as "killers" and "rapists" according to Donald Trump the 45th President of the United States of America. Also, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, Latinos/Hispanics have the second-highest high school drop out at 10%. This is a big step for the Latino/Hispanic community & to prove the world wrong. Viva La Raza!
