Will Trump actually ban TikTok in the U.S.?

President Trump, this week announced about banning the popular short video app called TikTok. TikTok has over 165 million people using its app in the U.S. President Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the ban is due to an escalating trade war with China. TikTok is owned by Beijing-based ByteDance, and Trump believes that the Chinese government can steal information from U.S. users. It is still unclear how exactly this ban will be carried out, but many popular users of the app have spoken up against banning TikTok.

Pompeo said that Americans shouldn't download the app if they don't want their private info to fall in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party. TikTok is led by an American CEO and he stated that Tiktok has never and will never give users data to the Chinese government.

India recently banned TikTok and other Chinese apps from their country after India and China had a clash at the border causing the death of 20 Indian soldiers. TikTok has announced multiple times that they don't work with Beijing and that they are trying to distance the app from the Chinese government.
